Watershed Structures Cabin Prototypes

A commercial project for Watershed Structures

About this project

Watershed Structures offers kits and construction options for small cabins, mother-in-law homes, sheds and other types of detached accessory dwelling units (DADUs) in western Washington. Eclipse Engineering provided the structural engineering support for a creative use of cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels, which aren’t commonly used in small residential construction.

The cabin prototype features insulated CLT walls and floors, as well as roofing and attractive glulam timber design elements. The panels on this cabin are modeled very accurately down to the 1/32nd-inch gap in the panel splices so that we could export and send directly to the manufacturer to streamline production. The result is a cozy, charming dwelling space that can be constructed quickly and serve a variety of uses.
