Verde Cocina: Sylvan Highlands Remodel
Eclipse provided structural engineering to restore a burned wood framed restaurant structure dating from the 1950s.
The Verde Cocina restaurant originated as a midcentury brick-veneer home. In 2020, the property was severely damaged in a fire, and the owners opted for a remodel that would improve the space and add new features such as as expanded dining areas, larger kitchen and bar, upper level outdoor patio seating, and ADA access. Eclipse provided structural design for a significant overhaul that included improvements to the lower roof, a new upper roof, upgrades to the floor framing, a complete retrofit of the lateral resisting system, new stairs, and square footage expansion. The new upper roof includes Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) supported by steel framing, and a solar array to enhance the building’s sustainability. Manufacturer Premier SIPs reports that this is one of the first buildings in the Portland area to feature these innovative panels.
Completion estimated for summer 2024. Find Verde Cocina’s other Portland locations on their website.
