Nixya’awii Community School

An educational center in eastern Oregon

The Nixya’awii Community School consists of a new 69,000 sq. ft. building with classrooms, an administrative wing, a gymnasium wing, and a central cafeteria and common area.

The building includes a variety of building materials that include heavy-timber, conventional wood framing with steel infill, light-gage framing, and masonry at the gymnasium. The majority of the building is one story, with large vaulted ceilings throughout the commons and mechanical mezzanines over the offices and administrative areas. Eclipse provided engineering design including the roof framing, foundation, shear walls and foundation walls.

The space serves as an important community center for youth and adults of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR).
