Indianola Yurt
About this project
This two-story, single-family yurt overlooking a forest and creek is 35 feet in diameter with wood-framed walls. There are additions around half of the main structure to provide extra space for bedrooms, bathrooms and a laundry room. The other half features a covered porch with a built-in spa. The yurt is supported by post and beam construction with braces and pad footings under each post.
In the center of the yurt, a spiral staircase leads to the loft balcony, which provides additional floor area, and is partly open to the main floor. The thermal glass-top dome allows for natural lighting at the apex of the lofted ceiling, made with 2×12 roof rafters and an exclusively made wood compression ring.
