Brewery Lofts
About this project
Engineer of Record for a 70,000-square-foot multi-use building that includes four stories of luxury apartments over three stories of commercial space for a total of seven stories.
Exposed wood elements are the greatest feature of the 2110 Commerce Building “Brewery Lofts Tacoma” and it does not disappoint with its strength emphasized throughout. The flat roof is the top level and it features Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) planks on reclaimed Douglas fir timber beams supported by Douglas fir timber columns that bear on a similar system for Floor Levels 6, 5, 4 and 3.
The lower floors were existing large Doug Fir beams and decking. CLT was skillfully manufactured and engineered with penetrations for shafts, openings, and the steel brace frames, and their simplistic connections to the beams and columns consist mostly of screws for an extremely fast installation phase—one floor every eight days, according to reports.
At the time of completion in 2019, the structure was the second tallest occupiable wood building in the United States.
